Arthritis of the knee
Osteoarthritis of the knee joint occurs when there is wear and tear of the joints, leading to inflammation, pain and limitations in day to day activity. The inflammatory cells that are responsible for the inflation, travel through the blood vessels to the joint, which then further damage the joint and cause pain. By blocking these blood vessels, the inflammatory cells are prevented from reaching the joint and alleviate the inflammation, pain, and further destruction of the joint.
Until now pain medications and joint injections were the only options short of knee replacement. Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) is an outpatient, non-surgical procedure performed by Interventional Radiologist is gaining rapid acceptance not only in the United States but throughout the developed countries.
